Five years ago, the administration had constructed the toilet complex at Okkalageri in the second ward of Najanagudu spending around Rs 10 lakhs. But the people there claim that the building was not opened for general public. The toilet which was built for public use has transformed into a sanctuary for hooligans, alcoholics and troublemakers to run their illegal activities, the locals said.

As none of the public enters the building, the miscreants utilize it for a wide range of illegal activities including betting, smoking ganja and drinking alcohol. Cigarette buds, playing cards, alcohol bottles are strewn on the floor, as a distinct indication of the activities that occur here.

Without any choice, people continue defecating in the region of the complex. The stench alone is sufficient to turn anybody away from the place. If it rains, the entire place turns to slush, the locals said.

Other than this, the area is hazardous for the public, particularly children. Next to the complex is an underground sump filled with water. The sump is not covered and the locals fear that children could drown in this open sump.
