Traffic rule violation: Fines to higher; strict implementation

Udupi: in order to increase road safety, the state government has decided to impose hefty fines of traffic rule violators and it is getting implemented slowly. Amidst this, the police have also intensified their action against those exceeding the limits of traffic rules. On June 25th, the state government passed an order to increase the fine charges by 10 to 20 times. The order has come into effect from June 27th at some places in the capital. The new pricier fines have been implemented in undivided Dakshina Kannada district since two days.

How is the new fare?

Use of mobile phone while driving will attract a fine of Rs 1,000 and repeat offence will attract a fine of Rs 2,000. The fine for parking at no-parking areas and exceeding speed limits has been increased to Rs 1,000. Vehicle without or lapsed insurance will be fined Rs 1,000 and vehicles without registration will attract Rs 5,000 fine on first offence and Rs 10,000 for repeat offence. The fine for vehicle without fitness certificate is Rs 2,000 and repeat offence will be fined Rs 5,000.

Order has been received

The order of the implementation of the new fines has already been received. But the software of the electronic devices remains to be updated to the new fines. On completion of this, the order will be implemented strictly – SP Nisha James

Device updated only in Bengaluru

The new fines have been updated to the device only in Bengaluru. It will take some time for the devices in all the districts to be updated. Work has been undertaken to identify the registered centers that will update the devices to the revised amount.

In order to immediately implement the order from the government, the concerned heads of the police stations have been directed to take action for updating the PDAs in their respective jurisdiction to the revised fine rate and until the PDAs have been updated, they have been asked to collect fines in the old method of writing in the books but booking the cases as per the revised fine rates.
