Training programme to be conducted at NMPT by National Disaster Management Authority

Panambur: A basic training programme will be conducted by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to enhance the preparedness of Seaport Emergency Handlers to respond against CBRN emergencies including threats emanating from the use of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear material at seaports.

The training programme is a five-day long programme and will commence for the first batch on Monday February 11^th 2019, at New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), Mangaluru  and will conclude on
Friday February  15^th , 2019.

Both, lectures and field training will be included in the programme which also consists live demonstrations of detection and decontamination including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Along with equipping the seaport emergency handlers to handle CBRN emergencies, the train programme will also teach the participants on how to provide medical first aid and initial psycho-social support.

Experts from NDMA, NDRF, INMAS, BARC, DRDO and other departments will deliver lectures and hold demonstrations regarding CBRN emergency management.

Around 200 personnel will be trained in the one week programme with batch of 50 participants representing various agencies responsible for Operations & Management. 150 working level staff will be sensitised through mock exercise in a half-day programme.

Indian Ports Association (IPA), Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are collaborating to conduct the training programme.
