Two Central teams deputed to assess rain-related loss in state

Bengaluru: A day after Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy-led delegation met Prime Minister Modi seeking Rs 2000 crore package for relief works in the flood-hit districts of the state, the Centre has deputed two teams to assess the devastation caused in the Malnad and the coastal region of Karnataka.

The central team which arrived in the state on Tuesday will survey the flood-hit areas on September 12 and 13, post which discussions will be held with state ministers and chief secretary on September 14.

One of the teams led by Union Home Joint Secretary Anil Malik will head towards Madikeri, while the other team led by Deputy Secretary, Bharathendra Kumar Singh will survey Dakshina Kannada and Hassan districts.

Informing about the same to presspersons here on Monday, Revenue Minister R V Deshpande said that PM Modi has also assured to assist the flood victims through the Prime Minister’s relief fund and that the state government would in a day or two send the list of the flood victims to the Centre.

Meanwhile, he said that Centre’s aid will also be sought to provide relief for the drought-hit districts in the state. The extent of the drought would be assessed in accordance with NDRF guidelines, he informed.
