Two hovercrafts operating in M'lore sent to guard Indo-Pak border in Guj: Western Regional Commander

Mangaluru: Western Regional Commander of the Indian Coast Guard, Inspector General Manoj Vasant Baadkar on Saturday said that the two hovercrafts operating in Mangaluru have been sent to guard the India-Pakistan border in Gujarat.

He was speaking at a Press conference aboard the Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Varaha’ on Saturday, October 15.

Baadkar said, ” The two hovercraft vessels that were in Tannirbavi have been sent to Gujarat as there is a need for it there. At present we have 18 hovercrafts. A hangar of the Coast Guard is being built in Mangaluru at the old airport in Bajpe. It might take two years to be ready and four Dornier aircraft will be positioned in Mangaluru.”

He further said, ” I am originally from Karwar. I was the Karnataka Commander of the coast guard from 2006 to 2008. I now see a lot of differences in terms of technology, procedure etc. ”

” Coast Guard’s first training academy will come up on 159 acres in Mangaluru. The process of completing a few clearances from the Central government is underway.  The Academy can facilitate specialized training for the personnel which is now being offered abroad,” he added.
