Udayavani ‘Chinnara Banna’: Reading newspapers leads to success in life, says Satyanarayana Beleri

Mangaluru: Students should develop the habit of reading newspapers daily, emphasized Padma Shri awardee Satyanarayana Beleri. Addressing the winners of the “Udayavani Chinnara Banna” contest, he highlighted that reading newspapers like Udayavani offers valuable insights and knowledge, which can play a significant role in achieving success later in life.

The award distribution event was organized by Udayavani, in collaboration with Artists Forum, at the Kootakkala auditorium of Kudroli Shri Bhagavati Temple , Kodialbail in Mangaluru. The drawing contest covered school children from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasaragod districts.

Reflecting on his own achievements, Beleri credited his newspaper reading habit as a foundation for his success and acknowledged Udayavani for providing the initial knowledge that motivated his journey.

Dr. Harish Kinilakodi, General Manager of Modern Kitchens, stated that the company has been a long-time supporter of the “Chinnara Banna” contest. He expressed pride in the collaboration and announced that the partnership would continue, especially as the contest enters its 25th year next year.

Ramesh Rao, President of Artists Forum, noted that the competition has been a platform for children to showcase remarkable creative talents. Each artwork displayed by the winners was exceptional, making it challenging to select the best entries, he said.

Udayavani Editor Aravinda Navada shared that “Chinnara Banna” is an initiative aimed at nurturing creativity in children through artistic expression, music, and dance. Such experiences, he pointed out, contribute to students’ overall personal and academic growth.

Ramachandra Mijar, Vice President of Udayavani Magazines and Special Initiatives, stated that the “Chinnara Banna” contest has been a successful annual event for 24 years. It is now one of the largest and most prestigious children’s art competitions in the state, drawing thousands of young participants each year.

The ceremony saw participation from several distinguished guests, including representatives from Hangyo Ice Cream and Kudroli Shri Bhagavati Temple. The event was attended by over 500 children and parents from the three districts, illustrating strong community support.

Winners of the District-level Competition

In the Sub-Junior category, Deshna Kulal from S.R. Public School, Hebri, secured the first prize, followed by Nidhi Kairangala from Srirama Vidyakendra, Kalladka, in the second position, and Rohin K. from Blessed Kuriakose English Medium School, Guthigar, in the third.

In the Junior category, the first prize went to Vineesh Acharya from S.R. Public School, Hebri, followed by Anvith R. Shettigar of St Mary’s English medium School, Udupi and Y. Hansika of Canara higher Primary School, Urva, Mangaluru secured the second and third postitions respectively.

In the Senior category, Akshaj from NITK English Medium School, Surathkal, bagged the first prize, while Rishabh H.M. from Jain High School Moodbidri and Dhanvi U. Poojary from G M Vidyaniketan Public School Brahmavara were placed second and third, respectively.

The overwhelming participation of over 22,000 students across 17 centers in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasaragod districts underscored the growing interest in the event, which is now known for its quality and high levels of creativity year after year.
