Udupi: The Bhagavad Gita teaches devotion and duty as the foundation of a purposeful life, said Sri Vidyaprasanna Thirtha Swamiji of Kukke Subrahmanya Matha at the valedictory ceremony of ‘Yuva Geetotsava’ held at Sri Krishna Matha on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, the Swamiji remarked that Krishna’s teachings in the Gita guide individuals toward leading a life centered on duty and righteousness. He added, “Every Hindu household should have a copy of the Gita. It should be a part of daily life.”
Importance of Duty
Swamiji elaborated on Krishna’s emphasis on duty, stating that the Gita’s wisdom transforms life into a sacrificial offering. “When Arjuna hesitated in his duty, Krishna reminded him of his responsibilities. Similarly, being mindful of one’s duty can lead to growth and healing.”
Highlighting the growing misconceptions about Hindu deities, he stressed the need for the Gita in every home as a counterbalance to misinformation.

The Gita inspires listeners to live with vibrancy and clarity. Reading the Gita daily fosters positivity and enthusiasm, much like yoga energizes the body,” he said.
He urged individuals to embrace the Gita’s teachings as a remedy for modern challenges like depression and apathy, exacerbated by excessive mobile phone usage. “While mobile phones provide fleeting happiness, the Gita offers lasting contentment,” he added.
