Udupi: District's Deputy Commissioner in a video message has stated that the details regarding the first COVID-19 death in the district.
In the message the DC states that the 54-year-old man had arrived in Mumbai from Dubai and then came to Kundapura. He was put under institutional quarantine in Kundapura.
After he complained of breathing problems and heart pain he was taken to hospital at Kundapura. As his condition became critical he was shifted to Manipal.
He died soon after a surgery was performed on him.
As he had arrived from a COVID-19 hotspot, his samples were collected for COVID-19 testing and the reports came positive.
The DC further added that 5 people who travelled with him have been quarantined. 3 medical staff who came in contact with him without safety measures have also been quarantined.
Additionally, 57 persons have been identified as being in primary contact with the deceased and 38 people have been identified as secondary contacts.
The funeral of the deceased will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines on cremation of those dying due to COVID-19, the DC informed.
