This mandates the need to strictly follow self-protection practices to stop the pandemic from reaching the community transmission stage, says Dr Shashikiran Umakanth, Nodal Officer at the designated COVID-19 Hospital here.

He added that the already stated self-protective measures such as regularly washing hands, maintaining social distance and wearing facemasks are adequate to stop the spread of the virus.

He also stated that the pandemic may have reached community transmission stage in Mumbai, from where most of the COVID-19 positives in the district have returned. However, in the district, the pandemic has not reached that stage.

He added almost 10 per cent of the COVID-19 cases in the district are symptomatic of the disease. The virus present in most of the others doesn’t cause serious health issues hence there is no need to panic.

He also added that those suffering from asthma, heart, kidney or respiratory disorders are highly vulnerable to the virus so more caution should be maintained by them and also the elderly and pregnant women.
