An under-construction bridge in Bhagalpur, Bihar, collapsed on Sunday, June 4, as captured in alarming visuals recorded on camera. The footage showed two sections of the bridge collapsing successively. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported thus far.
The bridge, known as Aguwani Sultanganj Ganga Bridge, was being constructed in Khagaria, Bihar, with an estimated cost exceeding Rs 1,700 crore.
Reports indicate that a section measuring approximately 3 feet collapsed into the river Ganga below. It is worth noting that the bridge had previously suffered damage in April due to a severe storm.
The bridge, which was designed to span across the river Ganges between Khagaria, Aguwani, and Sultanganj, experienced a partial collapse two years ago as well.
In response to the incident, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, criticized the Bihar government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Sinha stated to ANI, “There’s a tradition of seeking commissions. It is a consequence of his mentality of political instability that there’s administrative anarchy and corruption. The system is collapsing, but they are talking about opposition unity.”
