Union Govt sanctions Rs 2070 Cr to develop 27 cities further in Karnataka

Bengaluru: The union government has sanctioned Rs 2070 crore to Karnataka state under Amrut City scheme for the period of three years from 2017 to 2020 for the development of 27 cities in the state. The decision to sanction the amount was taken at a meeting held on Friday, said Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu speaking to press reporters in the state capital on Saturday.

The scheme was implemented in the year 2015-16 for a term of five years. The union government was decided to sanction Rs 4791 for five years starting from 2015-16. Rs 1259 was released in 2015-16 followed by Rs 1642 in 2016-17 and remaining fund worth Rs 2070 for 2017-20. The fund sanctioned on Friday will be utilized for drinking water supply, drainage, urban public transportation, environment conservation and others, the minister said.
