Referring to the recent incident of miscreants heckling of medical students at Surathkal, the former minister said, the selective action taken by police at the behest of their political masters has caused anarchy in the district. “The goons misbehaved in the presence of police. What strict action has been taken against them?” he asked.
On September 26, students were driving back after visiting Malpe beach had been allegedly stopped at Surathkal check post by the accused. It is alleged that the accused questioned the women for “being in the company of Muslims” and abused, manhandled the students. The police had arrested five Bajrang Dal activists for their involvement in the incident. All the accused were released on bail on September 29.
Khader alleged that lenient action by the police is the reason for the accused being released on bail within 24 hours of their detention.

“If goons can beat up anyone in public places, will anyone send their kids to study in Mangaluru if the situation continues?” he asked.
He also suggested the police be impartial and just. “Police should respect the law and not cower under the pressure of political bosses. They may belong to any religion, but rowdies and anti-social elements are the real anti-nationals,” he said.
