UTK checks contaminated water wells at Kanekere 

Ullal: Following reports of water contamination in the wells at Kanekere in Deralakatte here, Dakshina Kannada District in-charge minister UT Khader met with the residents of the area, on Tuesday, November 12.

Nearly four wells in the residential area have been contaminated with fuel and have turned combustible. The residents even demonstrated to Khader how the contaminated water drawn from the well catches fire upon being lit. 

Speaking to presspersons after interacting with the elected representatives of Belma GP and the residents here Khader said that water samples collected from the wells will be sent for testing purposes to experts at NITK and MRPL. As an interim measure, he said that the well water will be drained out and purification process will be undertaken.

To overcome the problem of drinking water faced by the locals, arrangements have been made to supply water for at least an hour, he informed adding that he had directed Zilla Panchayat officials to identify land and start digging borewells.
