Hubballi: Promises made by politicians or the results of the assembly elections seem to be of no consequence to the residents of Hubballi district as they struggle for a pot of water. The citizens are faced with a water crisis this summer as many areas receive drinking water just once a week, and many others receive it once a fortnight. Residents of Old Hubballi, Gokul Road, Vidyanagar, Unkal Cross, Keshwapur and Central Hubballi are supplied with water only once in 10-15 days. Moreover, the sparse supply of water is also polluted because sewage and drinking water pipelines get mixed up. The residents allege that the water shortage began in January itself, but no attempts were made by the Karnataka Water Board(KWB) or the Hubballi District Municipal Corporation(HDMC).

A resident of Keshwapur alleged that certain areas in Hubballi received water throughout the day while others just once a week. People pleaded for at least two hours of continuous water supply in all areas. Also, issues of power cut interfered with taking the supplied water to the overhead tanks. Residents complained that a heavy sum of money had to be paid regularly for the water tankers due to delayed water supply.

Authorities from the KWB said that the only way to supply water to Hubballi is from Malaprabha, which also is plagued with shortage.
