Water scarcity: MCC opens control room at Bendoorwell

Mangaluru: In the backdrop of water shortage plaguing Karavali, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has opened a control room at its water treatment unit and pumping station at Bendoorwell to address complaints related to water supply in the city. The helpline numbers are 2220303 and 2220362.

The control room has been working around-the-clock. Complaints in areas beyond Kuluru Bridge like Panambur, Surathkal, and Hosabettu will not be entertained. Complaints relating to water supply issues in the city will only be addressed, informed a water supply official.

The corporation has now been lifting water from a private open well in Jeppinamogaru for supplying through tankers. Additionally, water is also being lifted from a bore well in St. Joseph Nagara for supplying water to Mangaladevi areas, added the official.

Open wells cleaned

Some open wells including those at Nooji in Kannagudde, near Coast Guard colony in Yekkuru, near Sovereign Tiles in Bolar, in SC and ST colony near Marigudi, in Suterpete IV Cross  and Umikana near Kulashekara are being cleaned and kept ready for lifting water, informed the official.

Currently, the corporation has six tankers and eight other water tanker-fixed jeeps (pick-up vehicles) to supply water to houses in elevated areas. if needed, water can also be lifted from the tank of Kavu Panchalingeshwara Temple at Yekkuru, said the official.

Thumbay water level

The depleting water level at the Thumbe vented dam receded to 3.68m at 2 p.m. on Friday. In accordance to water rationing rule in effect, water is being lifted for 96 hours from the dam and then the process is stopped for the next 96 hours. Meanwhile the water lifted is provided to the city.
