Wheelchairs, magnifying glasses arranged for specially-abled voters

Bengaluru: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, Sanjiv Kumar informed that over 35,000 wheelchairs, 52,000 magnifying glasses, and 2213 sign language interpreters have been arranged for voters belonging to the persons with disabilities.

Speaking on the initiative by the government Sanjiv Kumar said “Following our efforts in last year’s Assembly elections, the Election Commission held a national level-consultation and a policy has been framed to help differently abled voters across the country. ”

He further added that Till February 28, they had mapped 4,03,907 persons with disabilities in the state and are arranging to give assistance to such people. They have also arranged 35,739 wheelchairs, over 52,000 magnifying glasses, over 2213 sign language interpreters and over 31000 assistants for the people with disabilities.

Karnataka will vote to elect its members of Parliament during the second and third phases of polling on April 18 and April 23, respectively. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
