Jean Castex, a career civil servant who coordinated the strategy to ease France’s coronavirus lockdown, has been appointed as the country’s new Prime Minister by President Emmanuel Macron
Jean Castex was on born 25 June, 1965 in southwestern France, Castex studied at the Paris Institute of Political Studies and graduated in 1986.
He is the Mayor of Prades and had served as an adviser on social affairs in former French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s cabinet.
Castex was appointed as the deputy secretary-general of the Elysee in 2011.
He dealt with major health crisis when he was working at the health ministry as chief of staff in 2006. Castex coordinated France’s strategy for organising 2024 Paris Olympics.
Also, he was the senior official in charge of handling the government’s plan for exiting the coronavirus lockdown until early June.
