Who is Sara Gideon, Indian origin US Senate candidate backed by Obama

Indian-origin Democrat Sara Gideon is being endorsed by former two-time US President Barack Obama as the senatorial candidate for Maine.

Sara Gideon is currently the Speaker of the Maine State Assembly, and is giving a tough fight to Republican incumbent Senator Susan Collins.

According to Bostonglobe, Gideon is seen as one of the most high-profile Senate races in the November polls. The Democrats are banking on Gideon to gain a majority in the US Senate.

Gideon was born in Rhode Island and graduated from East Greenwich High School in 1989. Gideon’s father immigrated from India and worked as a pediatrician in Rhode Island.

Sara attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and moved to Freeport, where she lives with her husband and three children, in 2004.
