Why BBC has announced a probe into a 1995 interview of Princess Diana?

The BBC announced the immediate start of an investigation into how it obtained an explosive 1995 interview with Princess Diana that lifted the lid on her troubled marriage to Prince Charles.

According to BBC, It comes after Diana’s brother alleged that BBC journalist Martin Bashir used forged bank statements to convince her to do the Panorama interview in 1995.

Lord Dyson, one of the country’s most senior retired judges, has been appointed to lead the inquiry.

In the November 1995 interview, which was watched by a record 22.8 million people, Diana detailed her collapsing marriage to the heir to the throne.

She said “there were three people” in her marriage which is her, Charles and his long-time lover Camilla Parker-Bowles and also revealed she had been unfaithful.

According to Indian Express, she also spoke about having suffered from postnatal depression after the birth of Prince William, and that she even tried injuring herself during the period. Upon being asked what impact the depression had on her marriage, she responded, “it gave everybody a wonderful new label – Diana’s unstable and Diana’s mentally unbalanced. And unfortunately that seems to have stuck on and off over the years.” Following her depression she also spoke about suffering from bulimia.

Diana and Charles formally divorced in 1996. She died in a Paris car crash the following year.
