Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Friday said that the government is implementing the anti-conversion law to trouble the minorities of the state.

He further accused the ruling government of trying to divert the attention of the people from real issues by bringing up emotive ones like anti-conversion law with an aim to implement its hidden agenda.

“We have several laws in India to prevent forced conversions. Why do we need an anti-conversion law? I appeal to the governor to reject it.  If there is forced conversion, file a complaint against those involved and punish them. There is a law already,” he added.

He further said, “True Hindus will never accept this bill. Hindus believe in secularism and I request Hindus to oppose the bill. BJP is implementing the bill with the aim to implement its hidden agenda. We will not let the BJP exploit the rights of minorities. Congress will stand with each and every minority of the state and will also hold a rally against the implementation of the law.”
