PM Modi said India will prepare approximately one lakh NCC cadets across 173 border and coastal districts, a third of which would be women. Following the announcement Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the proposal to expand the NCC.
According to Indian Express, Currently the NCC has a strength of around 14 lakh cadets from Army, Navy and Air Force wings. It enrolls cadets at high school and college level and also awards certificates on completion of various phases.
NCC cadets have played an important role over the years in relief efforts during various emergency situations
