Will hot weather lead to COVID-19's death? Read an expert's opinion

New Delhi: COVID-19 has caused panic in more than 110 countries and so far no vaccine for it has been created.

In midst of this, there’s been a claim circulating that with the advent of summer the virus may die especially in areas with high temperatures.

According to Laxman Jessani, a physician at Navi Mumbai’s Apollo Hospital, scientists have not yet come to a definitive conclusion as to whether COVID-19 virus will die with a rise in temperature.

He also stated that viruses can survive for 8 to 10 days on surfaces even in a dry environment. They do survive in human bodies with a temperature of 37-degree celsius.

Viruses do stay alive in hot environments. However, extreme heat may make them deactive or passive and kill some of them. There is however uncertainty whether COVID-19 virus will become passive or die with increasing heat, he added.
