Woman Dies Allegedly After Son-In-Law Pushes Her From Balcony Near Mumbai

Thane: A 32-year-old man was arrested today for allegedly killing his mother-in-law after a quarrel with her in Thane, Maharashtra, police said.

The 68-year-old victim, Kamaljit Kaur, went to her son-in-law Ankush Batti’s home yesterday, to enquire about her hearing and speech-impaired daughter, who Ankush was allegedly harassing, Thane police spokesperson Sukhada Narkar said.

Ankush Batti had a quarrel with his mother-in-law over some issue following which he allegedly hit her and then pushed her from the balcony of his flat, located on the first floor of a residential building on Ghodbunder Road, late yesterday night, she said.

The died due to the fall, Ms Narkar said. Neighbours of the accused were quick to alert the police about the incident.

The Kasarwadavli police subsequently arrested Ankush and registered a case against him under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, Ms Narkar said.

The body has been sent for postmortem, and the forensic report is awaited, she added.
