Days after a woman TikToker was molested by a group of nearly 400 people in Lahore’s Minar-e-Pakistan, on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day (Aug 14), the administration of Pakistan’s Punjab on Sunday announced a ban on the entry of TikTokers in all public parks in the province.

The Punjab Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) on Sunday announced the ban following an incident where a woman was allegedly attacked by hundreds while she was filming a video in Lahore’s Minar-e-Pakistan on August 14, according to a report by Pakistan-based news portal ARY News.

The report said “all Tiktokers have to take permission from the concerned Punjab Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) for the entrance in parks”.

Meanwhile, the Lahore police have booked 400 people for the alleged harassment and molestation of the girl while she was filming a video on Pakistan’s Independence Day at Azadi Chowk near Minar-i-Pakistan in Lahore.

Videos of the incident in which hundreds of young men can be seen throwing the girl in the air for fun, dragging her, tearing her clothes and molesting her had gone viral on social media.

In her complaint, the woman said a friend of hers, who was present with her during the incident, was also assaulted and the mob stole her earrings and her friend’s mobile phone and identity card. The crowd snatched Rs 15,000 from them, she said.

The police have ordered a probe into the incident.

According to the ARY News, police have arrested at least 130 people and “identified 40 people” involved in the incident.

Earlier, Pakistan had banned the Chinese-origin short video sharing platform TikTok over “inappropriate content”.
