Young associate professor dies under suspicious circumstances

Mangaluru: An associate professor in a private dental college at Deralakatte near here was found dead under suspicious circumstances with the incident coming to light on Sunday July 21.

The deceased is identified as Dr Nagesh Kumar (35), son of Laxman Manjunath from Sirsi. Dr Kumar was working in the oral radiology department.

On Friday, Dr Kumar attended to his duties as per usual and later returned to the quarters allotted him in the said campus. However, when hospital staff reached his quarters to clean on Saturday morning, they found that the door locked. Since the college had holiday on Saturday, the staffs presumed that the doctor might have left home for some work.

The corpse is found

In the evening on Saturday, Dr Nagesh’s father called his son’s colleagues to inform them that his son was not receiving telephone calls since Friday night. Hence, the colleagues Dr Kumar’s quarters on Sunday morning and they too found the door locked from the inside. With no response coming from within, they informed Ullal police of the singular situation. Soon the cops rushed to the spot and the door was broken open in the presence of security staff and Ullal police. To everyone’s shock, inside lay Nagesh, dead on the cot with foamy saliva around his lips.

The corpse has been sent for autopsy only after which the real cause for the death will be revealed. Meanwhile, Ullal police have registered a case of unnatural death.
