The convicted Chandrashekar P, a resident of Santhekatte in Beltangady was held guilty of murdering his neighbour Thimmappa Poojary, 58, who was a lineman with BSNL.
According to the charge-sheet, Chandrashekar was in the habit of feeding stray dogs and cats near his house and often these strays would relieve themselves in Thimmappa’s compound. A conflict arose between the two when Thimmappa objected to this, as he was forced to clean the poop of the animals near his compound.
On June 2, 2017 evening Chandrashekar had assaulted Thimmappa with a sickle when he had stepped out of his house to buy ice cream for his two young children. He even flashed the sword at Thimmappa’s wife Champavathi and the children, who rushed to the rescue of their father.
