YouTube’s new feature to help supervise what the kids watch

In order to help parents control what their children watch, YouTube has come up with new features.

Youtube requires one to be of minimum 13 years of age to use their service, and people below the age have to sign up for YouTube kids.

In an announcement, YouTube said that in the upcoming days, it will launch new support for parents to allow kids to use YouTube with a supervised Google account.

Parents will be provided with three content settings, namely, Explore, explore more, and most of YouTube.

Explore setting is for children ready to move on from YouTube kids and explore content on YouTube. The setting is suitable for users of ages 9 and above, according to YouTube, parents will be able to find vlogs, tutorials, gaming videos, music clips, news, educational content, and more.

The explore more setting will come with a larger set of videos and will suitable for kids above 13 years of age. This setting shall allow kids to watch the live streams as well.

Most of YouTube settings will enable users to see almost all videos on YouTube, except for age-restricted content. Also, it includes sensitive topics that may only be appropriate for older teens.

YouTube in their blog post wrote that they will use a mix of user input, machine learning, and human review to determine which videos are included.

Apart from the content settings for their kids, parents will also be able to manage, watch and search history from within their child’s account settings.
