A single post by an unknown person can sometimes make a difference and make life easier for someone who works every day with very little.

Twitter users recently joined together to fundraise for a Zomato delivery agent who was photographed delivering orders while riding his bike. On Sunday, a user named Aditya Sharma tweeted about Durga Meena, claiming that the Zomato employee rode his bicycle through Rajasthan’s searing heat to deliver his order on time.

“Today my order got delivered to me on time and to my surprise, this time the delivery boy was on a bicycle,” he wrote, adding that the temperature in his city was around 42 degrees Celsius.

Sharma learnt his name was Durga Meena and that he had lost his teaching profession during the pandemic.

“Durga is a teacher and he is into teaching for the past 12 years. During covid, he lost his job of teaching in a school and he was talking with me in English,” the Twitter user wrote.

Meena began working for Zomato four months ago due to financial hardship. He earns roughly Rs 10,000 a month delivering orders, according to the now-viral Twitter thread.

“I don’t have time to breathe after delivering 10 to 12 order a day on a bicycle,” he told Sharma. “If I had a bike, it would make things much easier for me,” he said.

Sharma quoted Meena and wrote: “Sir if you can manage my down payment, I will pay my EMI myself and I will return your down payment within 4 months with interest.”

After hearing Meena’s story, Sharma decided to start a fundraising for him. His target of Rs 75,000 was met in no time as the internet was moved by Meena’s story and donated money to help him buy a bike.

The outpouring of support from the public was astounding. In under 24 hours, the funds for the bike were raised.

Sharma has now updated his followers, stating that Meena has purchased a bicycle and that the fundraising campaign has come to an end.
