14 persons appear for magisterial enquiry into M'luru firing

Mangaluru: Nearly 14 persons came forward to submit their statements in connection with the police firing that claimed two lives in Mangaluru on December 19.

Udupi Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesh, who is conducting the magisterial enquiry into the December 19 unrest had in a notice earlier asked eyewitness and those with any information on the violent incidents of that day to voluntarily come forth and submit their statements during the magisterial inquiry held at the AC court hall of the mini-Vidhana Soudha here on Tuesday.

Jagadeesh informed that statements of police, doctors who conducted the autopsy of the deceased and forensic experts will be asked to summoned at a later date. Close relatives of the deceased will be given an opportunity to submit information, he added.

Jagadeesh also noted that the magisterial enquiry will be steered in the lights and guidelines of Supreme Court and National Human Right Commission. The report will have to be submitted to the government and the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) before March 23, he added.
