Chikodi: Heavy rainfall in Maharashtra's Konkan region and the State's border areas in the past 24 hours has caused a four feet increase of the water level flowing in the Krishna river.
40 thousand cusecs of water were discharged from the Koyna reservoir in Satara district of Maharashtra on Sunday after the reservoir reached 90 per cent of its capacity.
On Saturday too 10 thousand cusecs of water were released from the reservoir. More water is likely to released from the dam again in the next 24 hours, this could lead to a huge rise in the water level of the Krishna river.
Ravindra Karalinganna, Subdivision Officer at Chikkodi stated that presently 1.5 lakh cusecs of water is flowing in the Krishna River another 1.5 lakh cusecs of water will be discharged from the Alamatti reservoir.
