The concert is being held to raise funds for the expansion of services at Hombelaku, a not for profit day-care and residential psychiatric rehabilitation centre, a constituent unit of KMC, Manipal. It will be held on May 11 from 6.30pm to 8pm at the Dr TMA Pai Auditorium (3rd floor) KMC, Manipal.
Hombelaku provides state of the art services for the long standing mentally ill persons. It has a multidisciplinary team approach, encourages community participation in care and caters to clients from all strata of society.
Mental disorders affect about 20 per cent of the population. About 1/6th of those affected have long standing deficits, leading to extensive difficulties in personal, social and vocational areas of functioning. These persons often require, not just medicines, but also a customised combination of several psychosocial therapies delivered by a team of mental health professionals to improve their functional state. The goal is to rehabilitate these persons to the extent possible and reintegrate them into the community.
