The well is around  50 feet deep and is built of red laterite stones. In 1917, people of many households made use of the well water. However, after the tap water was supplied to the city, several wells were closed by the officials. Also several people had jumped into this well and committed suicides. Later,  in 1969, officials closed it with a concrete slab.

Earlier, in June, a huge well was discovered in Kodialbail during the demolition of Navbharath Circle(Rashtrakavi Govind Pai Circle). Also, later a well at Bolar Junction was found.

In September 2020, a 120-year-old well was discovered near the autorickshaw stand next to the Taj Mahal restaurant during the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) road construction work near the Hampankatta Circle.
