Bantwal: PDS rice worth Rs 1.32 crore missing from godown; Investigations underway

Bantwal: A significant quantity of rice supplied by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) for distribution to ration card holders under the public distribution system (PDS) in Bantwal taluk has reportedly gone missing. The local authorities have swung into action, launching investigations into the disappearance.

Sharath Kumar Handa, an official at the Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Office, has lodged a complaint at the Bantwal Town police station alleging that as much as 3892 quintals of PDS rice worth more than Rs 1.32 Crore stored in a godown located near to the KSRTC depot at B C Road has been pilfered.

The police meanwhile are interrogating the godown supervisor, identified as Vijay, who was responsible for overseeing the storage facility.

Meanwhile, Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik has written a letter to the DK deputy commissioner, urging a thorough investigation into the situation and the commencement of legal proceedings against the individuals responsible. The letter highlights that there have been ongoing public complaints concerning the potential mishandling of rice supplied by the Food Corporation of India.
