The CID and forensics team succeeded in cracking the case by using scientific methods as the dead body was not found.
Bhaskar Shetty went missing on July 28, 2016. The case was handed over to the CID on August 16.
A CID team led by DySP T Chandra Shekhar was formed that stayed in Udupi and collected supplementary evidence.

The accused revealed details of their crime as and when the CID investigation team uncovered each action conducted in the murder.
The CID team compiled complete details of the whereabouts of the accused through their mobile phone location which also contributed to proving their culpability.
Apart from these pieces of evidence, the CID team also collected Shetty’s hair from the hotel where he stayed, blood stains from accused Niranjan Bhat’s car and bones from a river. DNA testing from Shetty’s mother Gulabi and his brother Suresh confirmed that the hair and bones were from Bhaskar Shetty.
The entire case had 167 witnesses and a 1,500-page charge sheet prepared by the team.
Under the guidance of CID DGP Kishorchandra, ADGP Pratap Reddy, DIG Sonia Narang, CID SP Rajappa, Eda Martin and DySP T Chandra Shekhar the team was able to crack this big case.
