In Dakshina Kannada, seven cases of the fungal infection have been reported along with 2 deaths in the Dakshina Kannada district.
As per information from the district administration, two of the patients with the fungus have already undergone surgery.
The Black Fungus disease has been declared as a notified disease under Section 7B of the KPME Act. In Dakshina Kannada district Wenlock Hospital has been designated as the treatment centre for the disease.

In the Udupi district, two people were diagnosed with the fungal infection – a 60-year-old woman from Santekatte and a 45-year-old male from Kaup.
These are the first two cases reported in the district.
Both are being treated at Udupi’s Adarsh Hospital. The woman is on a ventilator.
