An on-duty police constable’s timely action helped save the life of a critically ill patient who was being taken to Cytecare Cancer Hospital in Yelahanka on Tuesday afternoon.
The patient had suffered a stroke and was being moved to Cytecare on the advise of the doctors who treated him at Gleneagles for Cerebral Venous Thrombosis (blood clot of a vein in the brain).
The ambulance in which he was being taken to Cytecare suffered a tyre burst and came to a sudden halt near Palace Road here. The relatives of the patient began to panic when a replacement ambulance did not arrive for over 15 minutes.

The patient was later taken to Cytecare and is said to be in a stable condition.
The constable’s act has been commended by the police and public in general. On Wednesday Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) B R Ravikanthe Gowda rewarded Kallura with a bonus of Rs 5,000 for his helpful deed.
