Brother found guilty of elder sister’s murder

Kundapur: A man had been found guilty by Kundapur additional and session judge Prakash Khanderi, of murdering his elder sister in drunken stupor after she did not give money for him to buy alcohol. The sister later died in hospital as a result of the murderous assault by the accused.

The convict is Annappa Bhandary (45), younger brother of Vijaya Bhandary (50), resident behind Kundeshwar Temple, Kundapur. On July 22, 2018, Annappa assaulted Vijaya and inflicted grievous injuries post which she was admitted to the hospital. However, she lost her life failing to respond to the provided treatment.

Consequently, the police registered a murder case against Annappa Bhandary, who was arrested and produced in the court. The court had remanded him in judicial custody while the investigation continued.

The convict in question had a barber shop in Kundapur and was an alcoholic. Whenever he was short of money he used harass his elder sister. Similarly on June 22, he demanded money from Vijaya which she refused, resulting in a heated argument between the two resulting in the convict stabbing Vijaya with a knife found nearby. Hearing the screams of the victim, the locals rushed to the spot and then shifted the victim to the hospital.

Initially, the police registered an attempt to murder case against the accused. But, after the demise of the victim, a murder case was registered against the convict.

The court has said that the sentence will be pronounced on June 28. It may be noted that this is the first murder case that completed investigations within a year.
