Mangaluru: Good rainfall accompanied with lightning and thunder was reported from some places along the coast on Wednesday October 9. Lightning during the rain claimed two lives as well.
The deceased are identified as Harish Poojary (27), resident of Yadpe in Hebri Shivapuraand Jamsheer (32) from Perimanna in Kerala. The later was on a visit to Kodachadri hill as a tourist.
Mr Poojary lost his life when he was asleep on Tuesday night. It is learnt that he was differently abled since birth and was suffering from other health complications. After the incidnet, he turned very ill, and was taken to hospital, but he passed away on the way to the hospital. Hebri police have filed a report about this incident.
Meanwhile, Jamsheer, had come with four of his friends to undertake trekking in Kodachadri hill anf the group had reached the highest point of the hill when the lightning struck. Jamsheer lost his life while his friend escaped unhurt. Nagara police have filed a report in this concern.
Good rainfall
Heavy rainfall was experienced at Belthangady and surrounding areas on Wednesdayevening along with thunder and lightning. Good rainfall was also received at nearby areas including Puttur, Uppinangady, Bellare, Sullia. Cloudy weather with intermittent sunshine was witnessed in the city.
Mala village of Karkala taluk experienced strong wind and heavy rain with lightning and thunder on Wednesday. Lightning damaged the house of Kalyani Shettigarthi on Tuesday night. Some electrical appliances also suffered damage.
According to the forecast by the meteorological department, good rainfall is expected in the coastal region during the next two days.
