The convicted Dolphy Goveas had hacked to death his 83-year-old father, Paul Goveas on April 14, 2017, when his brother Stany Goveas, 54, had gone to church. Later, when Stany returned home, Dolphy launched a murderous assault on him and fled the spot.
On October 10, Judge Kadloor Sathyanaraya Acharya upheld the arguments put forth by Prosecutor Pushparaj Adyantaya and held Dolphy guilty of his fathers’ murder and for the attempted murder of his brother.
Dolphy was convicted under IPC section 302 (murder) with Rs 10,000 fine. In case of failure to pay the penalty, he will need to serve an additional 6 months jail time. He was awarded punishment for life under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and penalty of Rs 10,000. The court also convicted Dolphy under IPC section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) for which he was given 10 years jail and a fine of Rs 10,000. If he fails to pay the fine, he will spend 6 months in jail.
