Udupi: Chairing a flood review meeting at deputy commissioners office in Udupi, Revenue Minister R Ashoka on Friday informed that 11 districts will get an additional Rs 5 crore each for relief works to avert any rain-related mishaps.
"Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Haveri, Hassan, Mysuru, Chamarajanagara, Dharwad, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will get an additional Rs 5 crore each under natural disaster fund immediately," Ashok said after taking stock of the situation in Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada districts.
As rains continue to batter coastal districts, chief minister Yediyurappa had directed ministers to monitor the situation and take remedies to avert any rain-related mishaps.
Further Ashoka informed that a sum of Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned to fire and emergency services department for purchase of equipment such as boats that will help tackle flood fury.
"I have directed officials to ensure that those living in low-lying, flood-prone areas and on river banks are shifted to rescue camps," he added.
