Elderly couple jumps into river to attain salvation, husband dies

Mysuru: Blindly believing that drowning in a holy river would free them of their sins and help them to attain salvation, an elderly couple jumped into River Kapila. In this episode which occurred near Nanjangudu in the district, the wife survived while her husband lost his life. 

The episode occurred on Tuesday July 24. Nagaraju (70) and his wife, Kalavathi (60), inhabitants of Hebbal, Bengaluru, wanted to die together without waiting to experience the ill health, and seal their places in their life after death by jumping into a holy river. They went to Nanjangudu and jumped into River Kapila. While Nagaraju died, Kalavathi survived. She is being treated in the government hospital at Nanjangudu. 

A case has been filed in Nanjangudu police station.
