Engineering course fee to go up by 10%

Bengaluru: Fees for engineering courses in the state will be raised by 10 percent as compared to the previous academic year, announced the Higher Education Minister, Dr MC Sudhakar. The decision to raise the fees was implemented by the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, ensuring compliance with the established rules and regulations, he said.

Addressing the media, Minister Dr MC Sudhakar stated that a thorough review had been conducted to ensure the previous government’s fee hike decision followed all guidelines without any loopholes. As a result, the registration process for the upcoming academic year will proceed smoothly, devoid of any confusion. The minister further affirmed his commitment to issue a separate order to that effect.

In 2022, the engineering fees were fixed at Rs. 38,200 for government colleges, Rs. 91,796 for private type-1 colleges, Rs. 98,984 for type-2 colleges, and Rs. 91,796 for deemed private colleges. The proposed amendment by the current government entails an extra charge of 10% on these revised fee structures.

In a related announcement, KEA Executive Director S. Ramya addressed the issue of scholarships for top rankers in the Common Entrance Test (CET). Ramya acknowledged that many of the top performers in CET choose to pursue their education through other prestigious examinations such as NEET and JEE Advanced. However, she emphasized that the scholarship opportunities would remain open for the CET’s top rankers who wished to continue their studies within the program.
