Agumbe forest battles plastic pollution crisis

The Agumbe forest area has become cluttered with garbage and plastic. This pristine habitat, home to the world’s rattlesnakes, is marred by the unsightly presence of discarded bottles and unsanitary heaps of waste.

Regrettably, the once-vibrant Agumbe forest has devolved into a dumping ground for refuse. This cherished spot in the Western Ghats, once sought-after by tourists, now greets them with unsightly mounds of litter.

Compounding the issue is the proximity of the Agumbe Rain Forest Research Center to this dumping ground. Even waste brought by tourists finds its way here, leading to understandable outrage from the local community, who hold the Gram Panchayat accountable for mismanaging waste disposal.
