Backward community seers appeal to K'taka CM for caste census recognition

Seers of backward communities in Karnataka gathered on Saturday to meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, putting forth a plea for the state government to officially acknowledge the caste census report.

The seers emphasized the potential benefits of this recognition, particularly for the working class. In response, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a two-month extension for the submission of the caste census report.

Jayaprakash Hegde, Chairman of Karnataka Backward Class Commission, expressed the challenges in submitting the Kantharaju Commission report. The Chief Minister indicated that a decision on this matter would be made after seeking legal advice.

Seers during the meeting also spoke about the lands which are to be allocated to Mutts. On this, the Chief Minister said that he has instructed the tahsildar to submit the report in this regard and directed the Bangalore Rural Deputy Commissioners over the phone to give the report as soon as possible.

Siddarameshwar Swamiji of Bhovi Community Chitradurga, Valmiki Prasannanandpuri Swamiji, Jagadguru Niranjananandpuri Sri of Kanaka Gurpeeth of Kaginele Mahasansthan and seers of Backward Castes Mutt, Backward Classes Welfare Department Commissioner K.A. Dayananda were present at the meeting.
