Bantwal: Theft at Shree Mahalingeshwar temple

Thieves broke into the Shree Mahalingeshwar temple in Tumbe, Bantwala taluk and decamped with cash and silver valuables woth around Rs 2 lakhs on Tuesday, November 5 night.

The thieves broke the lock of the temple’s front door, entered inside, and stole a 1.5 kg silver artifact of Lord Mahalingeshwar from the temple office, Rs 50 thousand from the donation box, and cash kept in the Godrej cupboard.

 

Although CCTV cameras have been installed around the temple, the thieves also stole the camera DVR.

The theft came to light when one of the temple staff arrived at 6 am and noticed that the lock of the front door was broken. He immediately informed the temple administrator. This incident occurred after the recently held Brahmakalashotsava. Bantwala Police personnel, dog squad and fingerprint experts arrived at the spot for investigation.

Earlier on Monday morning armed miscreants had entered a temple in Farangipet though the residence of the temple priest is located within the compound. The priest’s guard dog alerted him by barking, prompting him to check the CCTV feed, where he saw three armed intruders inside. He notified the temple manager and staff immediately but the culprits had already fled by the time they arrived.
