Bantwal: Woman dies 15 days after bus mishap on Jog falls trip

A woman who was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru after being injured in a bus accident during a trip to Jog Falls passed away on Monday night (Dec 30).

The deceased has been identified as Bharati (55), a resident of Mundajoor, Shambhur.

Accident details:

On December 15, a group of around 55 individuals embarked on a trip to Jog Falls from the Sri Sai Mandir in Shambhur, Bantwal taluk, traveling in a private bus. The passengers included people from Shambhur,BC Road, Panemangalore, and Mangaluru.

Tragedy struck when the bus, nearing its destination, experienced a technical malfunction, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to overturn.

Casualties and response:

Over 20 passengers sustained serious injuries in the accident. Prompt action by Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik ensured that the injured were initially treated at a hospital in Sagara and later shifted to AJ Hospital in Mangaluru for advanced care.

Despite intensive treatment, Bharati, who had sustained severe injuries to her hand and chest, failed to respond to medical efforts and passed away 15 days after the accident.

Bharati’s daughter was also injured in the accident and continues to receive treatment at AJ Hospital in Mangaluru.
