Belgaum: Continuous rainfall submerges over 25 bridges

Belgaum: Unceasing rains in the district and in bordering Maharashtra has caused a flood-like situation in 10 taluks and submerged 25 bridges cutting off road access in various parts of the district. 1.40 lakh cusecs of water were dumped into the Krishna River from the Kallol Barrage in Karnataka. Torrential rains in Khanapur taluk has caused the flow of water Malaprabha river to reach danger level. The inflow into the river is also rising from other sources: 26,894 cusecs of water were discharged from the Malaprabha reservoir. More than six bridges were submerged in Ramadurga taluk and six villages were affected by increased inflow. The Hidakkal reservoir too is overflowing due to the rains. About 38,588 cusecs from the reservoir were released into the Ghataprabha River causing the Sankeshwara-Naragunda State Highway, at the Lolasura Bridge to be completely submerged. This bridge connects Belgaum, Vijayapur, Solapur with Maharashtra. The flooding Ghataprabha river's waters have entered Gokak town's Halabaga Galli, Kumbara Galli, Mantan Market and Bojagar Galli. The taluk administration has instructed the flood-affected people to move to safer places.
