Mangaluru: “The responsibility of saving the life of a 15-days-old infant was in my hands. Tearful mother sitting beside her child… These two scenes compelled me to cover a distance of 452kms in four hours. Now, my mind feels positive.” The one who said this worked to save the life of a 15-days-old infant by covering a distance of 452kms within 4 hours 45 minutes is the 34-year-old ambulance driver Hasan Deli. The 15-days-old infant of Sania and Mitha couple, residents of Kasaragod was receiving treatment at A J Hospital in Mangaluru. The parents decided to shift the infant to Ernakulum for a life saving surgery to be conducted there.  An ambulance for a charitable trust at Kasaragod was booked for the purpose and ambulance driver Hasan from Kasaragod managed to complete the 452km journey in 4.45hrs. This amazing feat was casted live on Facebook by the ambulance staff and the cooperation of the people of Kerala, Karnataka and the police provided much assistance to achieving the aim successfully. Along with Facebook Live, Kerala health Minister ordered to get the infant to Ernakulum hospital and also said that the facilities for the treatment of the infant will be provided by the government. That is when the pace of Hasan’s driving increased further. The reason for this is the feeling that thousands of people are with me for the survival of the infant, says Hasan. A feeling of contentment The photos and video of Hasan have been shared on social media. “I have the contentment of saving the infant. That is enough,” says Hasan.
