The land for the construction of the centre had been identified at Maryhill and Kavoor almost 4 months back. Since, no decision regarding which was the most suitable site had been taken, the proposal remained pending at the DC office. Now, the decision is expected to be taken within a week under the leadership of MLA Dr Bharat Shetty. There is 1.3 acre land available at Kavooe and the district administration has come to the conclusion that the area is suitable for the purpose.
What are the benefits?
If Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Regional Centre is established in Mangaluru, the medical students will no longer have to travel all the way to Bengaluru for any necessities related to the university. 70 medical colleges in DK and Udupi districts are affiliated to this university. The aim behind the establishing of the regional centre is to provide all the services related to medical and semi-medical courses, close by to students and their parents. The regional centres will include digital evaluation and training for professors as well.

Sports complex
There is a plan to setup a sports complex of RGUHS in Mangaluru and 5 acres of land has been requested for the creation of the same at Mangaluru University campus. The process in this connection is ongoing, informed RGUHS senate member U T Iftikar.

The Deputy Commissioner has been informed regarding the identification of land for the regional centre. Two areas were shown within Kavoor limits. The local MLA and the university senate member are working on this.
