Chikkamagaluru: Five families of Malemane village in Moodigere taluk here have written a letter to the President of India alleging non-payment of relief money promised by the government in 2019.

The houses of the 5 families in Malemane had been destroyed in the floods of 2019. The plantations by which we earned our living were also destroyed, the families claimed in the letter.

The then-chief minister, BS Yediyurappa, had personally visited the families and promised to release compensation. However, none of these promises have come to fruition, the families alleged.

We are tired of running from pillar to post, from one government office to another. No one has responded to our plight. Living has become difficult for us and we have taken a collective decision to end our lives in mass suicide, the letter says.

If it’s possible, please pay the compensation money promised, or give permission to euthanize ourselves in mass suicide, the letter adds.
